Soulja Boy arrested on charge of possession of firearm in Los Angeles
Rapper and record producer Soulja Boy arrested early Sunday morning in Los Angeles and charged with possession of a firearm during a traffic stop, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The musician, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, was stopped by police at around 2:35 a.m. local time on the intersection of Melrose and Genesee avenues, police said.
“A passenger was detained and police arrested DeAndre Cortez Way for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm,” the LAPD said. This would be a felony. Online records show that the 35-year-old was arrested at around 2:50 a.m. It is unclear whether he has been released or where he is being held.
Way was previously arrested for carrying a loaded gun during a traffic stop in January 2014, TMZ reported at the time.
In 2011, the “Crank That” singer was also booked during a traffic stop in Georgia, where marijuana, cash, and guns were found in a car he was riding in. He was booked on felony charges alongside four others, the Los Angeles Times previously reported.
In April, a jury slapped him with a $4.25 million verdict for sexual assault claims waged by a woman he used to live with, according to Courthouse News.
It’s not immediately known if the musician has been released or has retained legal representation.
Soulja Boy was released from custody on Tuesday after California prosecutors declined to file charges
Soulja Boy was released from custody on Tuesday after California prosecutors declined to file charges following his arrest over the weekend on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
“A case was declined due to insufficient evidence,” a spokesman with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office wrote in an email sent to Rolling Stone. The “Crank That” rapper was released from jail shortly before 2 p.m. local time, according to online records.
Metro Boomin Hip-hop producer is accused of rape in a lawsuit. Possible Shakedown?
Metro Boomin Hip-hop producer is accused of rape in a lawsuit. Possible Shakedown? A Los Angeles woman has filed a lawsuit alleging that Metro Boomin, a Grammy-nominated producer who has worked with some of the biggest names in hip-hop and R&B, raped her in 2016 and she became pregnant from the attack.
The producer’s attorney calls the accusations false and said the lawsuit filed Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court is “a pure shakedown.”
Hip-hop producer Metro Boomin is in a lawsuit battle.
Vanessa LeMaistre, 38, says in the lawsuit that she became friends with Metro Boomin, whose legal name is Leland Wayne, after the death of her 9-month-old son. While visiting him in a recording studio months later, she blacked out and woke on a bed to find Wayne raping her, the lawsuit alleges.
She learned she was pregnant from the attack a few weeks later, the suit says.
An attorney for the 31-year-old St. Louis-born producer immediately denied the allegations.
Possible Shakedown? Metro Booming Hip-hop producer accused of rape.
What do you think? So many artists and producers like Jay Z, Puff Daddy, and more are getting called out, sued, accused you name it. Seems like this is the year of exposure for those who have been entangled in any foul or misbehavior play. Only time can in 2025 who is next and what the future holds for the entertainment business.

In the late 1980s, producers and musicians began turning more to drum machines and MPC drum loops in order to create beats and loops without using a full band. More importantly, however, these machines served the needs of a changing musical style where the beats themselves — no longer the thankless work of a drummer sitting at the back of a stage — would begin to work more intimately alongside the vocals, and even shine on their own. At the same time, hip-hop musicians such as Dj Premier, Arrab Muzik, RZA, PETE ROCK and more also began making wider use of sampler machines, which allowed them to take pieces of music from an external source and incorporate it into their own tracks. Machines that combined these two functions (often called groove boxes) were often difficult to use and required a more nuanced technical knowledge in music production. MPC Drum Loops
The original MPC, the MPC-60, was a collaboration between the Japanese company Akai and the American engineer Roger Linn. Linn had designed the successful LM-1 and LinnDrum, two of the earliest drum machines to use samples (prerecorded sounds). His company Linn Electronics had closed following the failure of the Linn 9000, a drum machine and sampler. According to Linn, his collaboration with Akai “was a good fit because Akai needed a creative designer with ideas and I didn’t want to do sales, marketing, finance or manufacturing, all of which Akai was very good at.
Retailing at $5,000, the MPC60 was a drum machine and sampler that also integrated editing functions. Gone were the switches and small, hard industry-standard buttons of 1980s drum machines and studio mixing boards. Instead, the MPC machine and MPC drum loops featured 16 large rubber pads that could be pressed and hit to make sounds, as though the machine itself were an instrument with keys. It could be used to compose full tracks. It came with floppy disks preloaded with a variety of sounds and instruments; and unlike many other available products, the pads were pressure-sensitive and could produce different sounds based on how hard they were pressed.
Most importantly it wasn’t an enormous, a stationed mixing panel with as many buttons as a jet fighter cockpit. The MPC didn’t need a studio to be operated, but instead plugged into a sound system in a basement home studio. Its only real match was the E-mu SP1200, which had neither the pads nor the approachability of the MPC drum machine.

Looking for the best Free MPC Drum Kits? The MPC features 16 large rubber pads that could be pressed and hit to make sounds, as though the machine itself were an instrument with keys. It could be used to compose full tracks. It came with floppy disks preloaded with a variety of sounds and instruments; and unlike many other available products, the pads were pressure-sensitive and could produce different sounds based on how hard they were pressed.
Most importantly it wasn’t an enormous, stationed mixing panel with as many buttons as a jet fighter cockpit. The MPC didn’t need a studio to be operated but instead plugged into a sound system in a basement home studio. Its only real match was the E-mu SP1200, which had neither the pads nor the approachability of the MPC drum machine.
